| Beaujolais Restaurant | Rating: 7 of 10 | |
| We had not been to the Beaujolais for a while, so the first sunny and warm Saturday of the year seemed like a good opportunity. Booking, even for lunch, was a good idea as the Restaurant was already almost full at 1:00 pm. Starters were spinach ravioli and brie in batter, both of which were quite substantial and very enjoyable. Main courses were another (larger) spinach ravioli and a cheese and mushroom omelette with salad and chips. Again, very nice. The meal was washed down with a very reasonable Chardonnay and the final bill came to a shade over £50 for the two of us with service included. As always JP the owner was on fine form, contributing to the unique atmosphere that has made the Beaujolais a Bath institution. | ||
| Hudson's Bar and Grill | Rating: 8 of 10 | |
| We visited Hudsons just after it opened, and we were very pleased with our evening then, so we decided to try it again, hoping it would still be as enjoyable. We were not disappointed. Starters were excellent. We had the buffalo mozzarella with vine tomatoes, and a goats cheese creation. Neither could be faulted. We both had the prime fillet steak, and these were about as faultless as you can get. Cooked exactly as we requested, they melted in the mouth, and were well complemented by string fries, bearnaise, and a wonderful horseradish sauce, made in Hudson's kitchen. Puddings were also a delight. I had the treacle tart, which thankfully bore no resemblance to school dinners. The lemon tart also got a rave reception. A great evening. The wine was resonably priced, and the service was efficient, unhurried, and slightly exotic. The cost, for two, with a bottle of wine and tip was a shade under ?100. We will be going back, and we won't be leaving it for so long this time. Hudson's Bar and Grill 14 London Street (At the top of Walcot Street) Bath Tel 01225 332323 | ||
| The Shaad Indian Restaurant and Takeaway | Rating: 8 of 10 | |
| The Shaad opened at the beginning of May 2007. It is located above the newly refurbished Crown and Anchor Pub in Weston High Street opposite the Chemists. It has its own entrance to the street, and once you have climbed the stairs you are presented with an elegant well presented dining room, complete with candles and table linens. Service is quick and attentive, without being too intrusive. You can bring you own drinks and there is no corkage charge, though we made use of the very convenient pub downstairs. The menu is fairly standard, with the usual Tandoori, Balti, Biriany, etc. dishes, though there are a number of Shaad Specials, such as Tatula, Kushboo, and Duck Tarkari that I dont remember seeing elsewhere. The food we sampled was excellent, and good value for money. The menu does not seem to be any more expensive than any of the the other local Indian Restaurants. The only niggle was the number of take-away customers passing our table, though this was indicative of how popular Shaad has become despite being open for less than two weeks when we visited. | The Desh, Chelsea Road | Rating: 7 of 10 | |
| The Desh is small Indian restaurant situated in Lower Weston. First impressions are of a friendly welcome and a bright and clean interior. The menu is not huge by the standard of some Indians, but all the usual tandoori, biryani and curry favourites are represented. Service is brisk without being hurried, and our meal was excellent. On asking around we found that everyone that has eaten there recently has had a more than pleasant experience. You can bring your own drinks (there is an off licence just down the road) and no corkage is charged. Takeaways are also very popular. Desh - 10 Clelsea Road, Weston Bath | ||
| The Chapel, Corsham | Rating: 7 of 10 | |
| The Chapel is located in the centre of Corsham, just off the main car park. The Chapel has been tastefully converted into a spacious restaurant and when we visited it was busy but atmospheric. The menu has a good range of styles represented - Green curry, beef bourguingnon, and a range of burgers are some of the choices. Service was pleasant and quick, and the food was excellent. Recommended. The Chapel, Martingate Centre, Corsham, Wilts. Tel 01249 701400. Open 10 am to 11 pm, Monday to Saturday. | ||
| Strada | Rating: 7 of 10 | |
| Strada is a relatively new Italian restaurant located next door to the Theatre Royal. We had a nice welcome before we were ushered into the tastefully decorated restaurant. The menu is pretty standard Italian, but executed to higher than average standard. Very nice pasta, pizzas were thin but very tasty, and salads were generous, fresh and crisp. We were too full to try the deserts, but other diners seemed to be enjoying them. Excellent coffee served in distinctive cups. A good experience, and we will go again. Only downside is that there are only two loos, so queuing is not uncommon. Strada. Beau Nash House, Sawclose, Bath, BA1 1EU. Tel 01225 337753. | ||
